Wear the Red - Don't Let the Red Wear You

Thank you for joining me this week as I continue with my discussion on colors. Last week, we discussed various colors and their meaning. Many people become intimidated by colors and fashion, believing they simply can't wear certain colors because of their skin tone. Or, simply because other people have told them they look less flattering in certain colors.

Personally, when I think of fashion and style, I think of stepping out of the box. I love to try things that people think are out of the ordinary. It makes me feel as if I'm set apart and no walking through life as a drone. One of the ways that I experiment is with colors. And, after recently becoming a personal stylist for plus size women, I introduce my client's to the exploration of color in which they are quite surprised.

However, like everything else, there is a trick to adding color to your wardrobe. It's not so much the color, but more so the tone of the color. For instance, you would never be caught dead in green. OK, but perhaps a deeper green would suit you more. And, because we know from reading my last blog that green stands for energy, what a welcome addition this would make.

So, lets go over the colors, their meaning and when to wear colors. Our first color we are going to discuss is the color red. Why? Because many people fear red. Red is a powerful color that if worn properly illuminates power. In fact, red is a bright color that compliments most skin tones.

Red is also a versatile color and can bring out many interpretations to those who are around you when wearing red. For example, it you want to illuminate power with your career, try a black two piece skirt suit with a red shell top underneath. Finish it off with a pair of red high heel business pump and a red handbag. This will intimidate those you are up against. Especially brilliant for those in the business of negotiating.

But, if you want to tone it down for a more casual look, but still feel in control of your day. Add red accessories to your wardrobe, such as red bracelets, a red scarf and a red necklace. Adding these small accessories in red will allow you to still see yourself in power. These are what I call visualization tricks.

And finally, for intimate power, its about being classy, not trashy. Before springing that red power on your significant other in the bedroom, ease them into your new found power. For example, the two of you should go out to a nice dinner together with you wearing a deeper red dress or set. This allows your partner the chance of visualization. Add brighter red accessories or black accessories so that you are not causing a shock to your partner's senses. Underneath of this red dress or outfit, you should have on the bright red but yet powerful lingerie. So that later on, after dinner you can take your romantic night to the level you want to take it to, without intimidating yourself or your partner.

So, now that we have discussed our first color, go out and give it a try. Wear the red, don't let it wear you. Red is a sign of maturity and is basically for the grown person confident enough to wear it. As always, I placed a few references you might want to try. Have a look at the carousel and get your hands on some of that red fashion. For more great styles and fashions, be sure to visit http://www.bargainsdirectly.com

Sunday Thought - Entertainers & Prison

Happy Sunday Everyone,

Usually my blog topics focus on style and fashion. However, entertainment tends to go hand in hand with both style and fashion. So, after reading a celebrity article, I decided to move into the topic of Entertainers, just for the day.

Need a New Bag? Get up to 70% Off Top Brands at eBags!

I read an article that was done on Robert Downey Jr. He is known as one of the bad boys of Hollywood, and rightfully so. In the 90's, RDJ went to jail for drug offenses and over the years has been the focus of positive and negative media attention. In this article, Robert Downey Jr. stated that going to jail did not really change him and that jail was not that bad.

And, of course we know that Paris Hilton has had a couple of arrests in which she spent time in jail as well as our bad girl Linsey Lohan. It seems that neither of these young ladies were deeply affected by their jail experiences either. The thing that struck me about the Robert Downey Jr. comment was his admittance of it not being bad. But then again, I saw his point completely after evaluating the situations.

Although these stars were in one of the worst jails in the U.S., they were kept separated from the general population, for their safety, their privacy, their start status and whatever else the system wants to use as an excuse for the special treatment. Los Angeles County Jails are over crowded, understaffed, under funded, dirty and nasty. Many of the people in LA County jail come from all walks of life. There are gang members, murderers, robbers, drug addicts and mentally disturbed. And, these stars were not exposed to any of that, because I guarantee, had they been exposed to real jail life, they would have a completely different outlook.

Even worse, is that mixed in with all the hardened criminals are people that perhaps never paid their parking tickets and ended up going to jail because of warrants, or people that perhaps broke a law of some minor infraction. Many of those misdemeanor type people are pretty much first time offenders with minor infractions, but basically they live a decent and law abiding life. But yet and still, when they are thrown into general population, no one is concerned for their safety, no one is making sure their privacy is protected, they are just thrown in their and whatever happens to them while there just happens. And, unfortunately, if something does happen, the jail assumes no liability, so you can't even sue them.

My question, after reading what Robert Downey Jr. said is, what made you better than the guy who was in jail for a ticket? Why should your life be worthy of protection and not another life? To Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen and even Lindsey Lohan, what makes your life more valuable than the average humans life? And, is your drug and alcohol abuse better that the average drug and alcohol abuse? Is your DUI less dangerous that the average person's DUI? What, do your inflictions come with warning label so that anyone who sees you can identify you as a menace? If you were to kill someone in your drunken and drug induced states, would your victims life be less important than your life? So Mr. Downey, of course it wasn't so bad. Of course it was not a learning experience to you. Why would it be?

Thank you all for reading my weekend edition. I'd love to hear your comments and feedback.

Until tomorrow when we return to our regularly scheduled fashion and style blog,

Reptile Print High Heel Caged Sandals

Take our fashion quiz at JustFab.com

Thanks to all for coming back and viewing my blog. Yesterday, I mentioned a new way to shop for shoes. Its like being in a shoe club, but the best thing is that they are superb in the pricing, the quality and oh so fashion forward. Today, I decided to put it to the test and see what exactly the stylists could send my way. I'm pretty picky, so of course I was full of doubt. After all, I'm a sister girl and love unique.

To my surprise, the stylist delivered. They showed me some shoes that made my head spin. They were unique, beautiful and classy. The heels were awesome and the color options were amazing. So, needless to say, I ended up getting the reptile print high heel caged sandals. I placed a picture for everyone to see at the top of my blog. I can not wait for them to arrive, they are simply hot.

I encourage everyone who loves shoes to give this a try. Take the free quiz, it does not cost a penny, sign up for free and let a stylist show you what they have.

Moving forward with the topic of the day, I really want to discuss colors and fashion and the role that clothes can play on our mental capacity. We all know that looking your best can give you an amazing attitude and persona. Its something about knowing that you are at your best. It seems to propel you to newer heights each time. I often believe that this is how and why women turn into fashion shopaholics. We all want to have that beautiful, feel good feeling all the time. However, we all make these drastic fashion mistakes from time to time. And, believe it or not, it has a lot to do with color.

Most people believe they have a color that makes them look better than other colors. Personally, I believe its all in a person's mind. If you wear something and you feel that the color is unflattering, you give off an unflattering vibe. However, if you wear a color with confidence no matter what the color is, you will feel beautiful and look beautiful. And, believe it or not, others will notice it. What you have done is allowed yourself to step out of your normal boundaries and step into confidence. Stepping into confidence makes you stand straighter, smile brighter, and adds a pep to your step.

So, I thought it only befitting that I introduce colors and their meanings to you. Once I discovered that certain colors stood for certain things, I was more willing to try other colors. For example, I always loved purple but would never wear it as an adult. For one thing, as a child I wore it all the time and children teased me, calling me the Purple Turtle. So, of course that damaged my ability to wear purple as an adult. But, when I discovered that purple stood for royalty, I fell in love with it all over again. Whenever I wear purple, I feel majestic and people notice the change in my mood. I often receive compliments when wearing purple. So you see, a once negative experience with a color was completely reversed into a positive one when I found out the meaning.

Here are a few colors and their meanings:

Green - Stands for energy and healing (try wearing green to work, it will get you through the day)

Purple/Violet - Stands for Royal and a higher mind (try wearing this when going after a new position at work or simply taking a test at school)

Yellow - Divine Intelligence

Blue - Peace and Tranquility (try wearing this when you have called it a day, have taken your bath and are ready to relax)

Pink - Stand for love

Orange - Stands for stimulation

Red - Stands for energy and production (this is what I like to call a power color)

Brown - Stands for earth and nature

So, there you have it. Tomorrow, we are going to get more into color. We will discuss when and where we should wear certain colors in order to get results. This is especially useful for those who have perhaps attempted to get a raise at work or a special date with a special someone only to end up not achieving your goal. It just might be attributed to the color you were wearing. Sounds strange doesn't it? No fears, we will discuss it more in our blog edition tomorrow.

Until Then

The Shoe and Bag Jackpot

Take our fashion quiz at JustFab.com

Take our fashion quiz at JustFab.com

Welcome back to all of you taking the time to read my blogs on fashion. So far, I have shown you in my previous blogs a few pairs of awesome shoes and boots. There was the Guess Bountiful boots, which I personally love and where quite often with jeans. And, a couple of other noteworthy fall fashion boots.

We all know that it can be quite costly trying to stay up on the latest fashions. Especially during this time of economic decline. But, I'm here to tell you that it can be done, if you shop smart and dress smart. We all know that the smartest things you can have in your wardrobe are the straight black slacks and the straight classic black skirt. These two items can mix and match with an unlimited amount of tops to create virtually any look you want. We also know that the least expensive items to purchase are tops and blouses.

By following the basic style tip, you can give yourself career looks, elegant looks, casual looks and so much more. However, once you have your basics, you certainly do not want to repeat the same looks over and over. You want to be able to take those basics and reinvent yourself. The best possible way to accomplish this task without breaking the wallet is to add accessories. Yes, those old fashion simple, but classic looking pearls can add a touch of elegance to a black skirt and black shell top. Bright and bold fashion jewelry can turn your basic wardrobe into perhaps a fun date night or night out on the town.

But, accessories do not stop at the jewelry. Scarves are great and have many uses. Learn how to tie one around your head properly for a spectacular look. Let your scarf serve as a shawl draped around your shoulders in the evening. And, in this day and age, you can find a book to teach you any and everything. One of my favorite books is on how to add scarves into your wardrobe and making them look good when wearing them.

We all know that us girls love shoes and handbags. However, they are the most expensive pieces and the most difficult to add to your wardrobe. Its funny how designers are beginning to realize that their products are unattainable for the average woman and they are basically losing money by not catering to us. The average woman is the shopping woman. As an average woman, we contribute more to this economy by shopping than probably any other group.

The average woman has revolutionized online shopping, we have made stores like Walmart, Kohl's and Target giants in the retail industry. And yet, the designers failed up until recently to realize this. But notice I said recently. Once high end designers such as Vera Wang, who provided nothing but exclusive fashion for the rich and the famous, now has her clothes in Kohl's. At one time, Macy's was a dream store that the average woman dared not to even look at. Now, Macy's has dropped prices so that anyone can pretty much go in there and buy a celebrity brand handbag or shoe.

While these are all fine and dandy. As an average woman, I feel as if the aforementioned designers and stores are using me. They are businesses and business people first. Their first priority is not making sure we as people can all afford their clothes. Their first priority is marketing to the demographic that will bring them the most money. And, that is the average woman. So, I tend to show loyalty and stick to those stores and places that marketed to my demographic from the beginning and continue to do so.

Which brings me to an awesome little secret I discovered. Its a company called Just Fabulous and its like being in a shoe and bag club with your own personal shopper. But, here's the best part, the price is so ridiculously reasonable, you wonder why this just came out? This is a must for anyone that wants to control their wallet and still look like a million bucks. And, it is the neatest thing. You take an online style quiz, they assess it for you and then based on the results, send you various shoes and bags to pick from. You pick the one you like or a couple that you like and pay the low, low cost. They do this each month and you are always welcome to pick other styles or none at all in any given month.

The quiz is super fun and as always, I believe in sharing and passing along a good deal, so click below, take the quiz and see for yourself.
